hi all newbie here problems with additional maps

can anyone help i have purchased a tomtom one xl and i would like to know how to use the sd memory card slot i have tried a friends map of western europe but when i insert sd card in slot tomtom screen tells me to remove it

Maps are locked to a specific device, which is the reason another unit's map will not work in yours.

Your unit came with a map which you can update to the latest for no charge if you got your unit within the last 30 days.
