GPS Noob TomTom 720

I live in the Midwest but just bought a 720 for a trip to Vancouver, BC. Early test runs have been good but having trouble getting the GPS to operate via the pc. Keep getting an 'error calling method on NPobject' Joined the forum to look for advice.... off to post in the right area.
