go700
Hi
I am looking to replace the hard drive in my go700 to a flash drive.
Can any one point me in the right direction please, I know its outdated but nice to have a back up with me.
TIA

Rgds Steve

You might want to open it up to see if it's really a hard drive or already a 2.5GB CF card. Rumors are that both are possible.
If so, your challenge will be to try to find an old 4GB CF card somewhere.
There were also once articles on swapping out an actual drive with a CF card, but we never had the instructions posted here. Pity.

Many thanks for your reply
Have looked at loads of stuff but it seems the posts how to do it should i find a card are long gone.
Thank you again for taking the time to reply
Looking on Amazon you can still buy the cards

CF cards over here were always a bit on the dear side over here.
Maybe the cost of a 4 GB card could partially offset the price of a low cost, unlimited map updates TomTom.

In that case, might be worth taking the can opener to your 700 to see whether it's actually a hard drive or whether it's a CF card in there. If you already have the CF, then one would think it would be a piece of cake to increase the size from 2.5GB to 4GB.

Had a quick look inside and don't really know what i am looking for to be honest.
I will have a look on youtube to see if there are any instructions as to where stuff is.
Thank you

Sorry for delay please find attached pic of inside of sat nav

That's a real Seagate ST625211CF 1" hard drive in there. It's the CF form factor, but a real drive.

The good news is that they're still around. Yup -- after all these years, new, and less than $10 a whack. Example >> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Seagate-ST1...211CF-Hard-Drive-9AF211-001-NEW-/371432619754

Bet you can still find them in the UK, too.

Cloning one could be tricky, but if formatted to FAT32 and copied directly, might be possible to clone the one you have.

Thank you for replying
Is it possible to replace with a flash drive or something more modern
Over here they are selling this model satnav fo a few pounds
so its not worth spending a great deal on as it is just going to be a back up with truck nav on it

Yes, it is possible, but I have been unable to find a 'live' link (one that still exists) showing the conversion from the Seagate HD to a CF card. They used to be out there.
Might be worth plugging one of the old, dead links into the Wayback Machine (http://archive.org/web/web.php) to see if they snagged a copy.

Hmm... old link was http://web.mac.com/hahnenuk/TomTom/Go700_CFCard.html
Plugging that into Wayback gave me this >> http://web.archive.org/web/20090519222823/http://web.mac.com/hahnenuk/TomTom/Go700_CFCard.html
That, in turn, references this site >> http://web.archive.org/web/20090420231509/http://www.yournav.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=6761

If you aren't familiar with the Wayback Machine tool, it's quite handy.

I have taken the 2.5gb cf hdd out of 2 tt700 that I have owned a little fiddly but not difficult, but I then replaced them with 5gb CF cards which plug straight in, so while you are renewing the drive it is worth changing the battery at the same time while the unit is partially dismantled,
it is no worse than changing the battery on a TT910, just keep an eye on the large number of screws
I got into this with a friend at computer fayres, changing batteries in appx 1 hr
