I'm considering buying one of these. Is there granular control over how the data is used?
I have an eSIM in my car, and it's expensive to run. It would be fine for traffic. But map updates I would do via home WiFi connection.

Just to pre-empt the suggestion, running traffic etc from my phone's hotspot is not an option.

Grateful for any advice :)

On your GPS, check to refuse to share information with TomTom.

Or the simplest option is to not connect your GPS to your phone via Bluetooth.

You are not obligated to update your map (or device firmware) at any particular time -- and your TomTom will never do an update of this sort automatically. You can always wait to perform any announced firmware and map updates until you are at home on your home WiFi.
