Having tried using a Wi-Fi Hotspot to connect my Android Smartphone to my Go Premium X, in the absence of any meaningful Traffic Services connection via 2G/GPRS and Bluetooth, I now despairingly find that the updates for Speed Cameras are irritatingly popping up repeatedly and causing the device screen to go black for many seconds which is *really* annoying.

If I accept the offered prompt to turn this off - which I do - it soon comes back, until I allow the update, which is not exactly convenient when trying to drive and navigate...

I don't want *update* prompts on the move (maps, cameras, PoI's, Charging Stations, whatever...), getting in my way, but I can't see anyway to supress these on the device or in my online TomTom account. I *do*, however, still want *alerts*.

Before I batter down the door of the 'Pit of Despair' which is TomTom support, is anyone else experiencing this? Has anyone got an answer?

Thanks

Ho Hum,

TomTom Support have confirmed that, with a Wi-Fi Connection, updates will always push through, and continually interrupt Map or Navigation views until accepted, and there is no way to prevent updates on the device or on the TomTom Platform, and there is no current fix for this.

So - for *uninterrupted* navigation, with effective traffic services, in car:

Not via GPRS - no longer available or unreliable
Not via Bluetooth - doesn't work
Not via Wi-Fi Hotspot - if you don't want a blank screen during totally unpredictable updates whilst driving

so - No effective Traffic Services!!!

What a lark!

Is there a reason why you wouldn't perform the updates from a home Wi-Fi hotspot before starting the GPS?

Also, it's Wi-Fi, so you don't need to turn on your computer.

Yes, there are several good reasons for me!

The device is in the car and it stays in the car - 'Asleep' (to use TomTom's term), not 'Shut Down' and to power up automatically when I start the car - unless I feel the need to bring it in e.g. to check over the settings, give the very limited (and now seemingly probably unnecessary - settings are held 'Non-Volatile') in theory non-customer replaceable battery a good charge (on whatever marginal capacity it has left) on the on-board 'Unintelligent' charger and go over it.

Even then, I often don't need to bring it in to update it, as it will connect to my domestic Wi-Fi (and not phone Hotspot) when parked - stationery - outside, and prompt for updates which I can allow, or bring it in if it looks to be a long process - e.g. infrequent major map updates, not irritatingly frequent camera updates, PoI's, charging stations etc. which I have no idea will be remotely applicable to me (no way to tell)

It is the move to a Wi-Fi Hotspot which has thrown this issue into the frame - when moving or away from home. It couldn't happen on GPRS , and Bluetooth doesn't work, so it wouldn't have shown up before!

Being alerted that updates are available is fine in my book - being unable to effectively defer them until *I* am ready, and in a position to do so is absolutely not. Traffic I want *NOW, IN REAL TIME* , the rest can wait until *I* am ready.

The device needs to work for me, not me work for the device.

And I never mentioned turning on my computer.
