TomTom Model(s)
Tomtom Go app and Tomtom Go Premium
Hello, we have two cars each with Car Play and my wife and I also have Tomtom Go Navigation loaded on our iphones. I have bought a family subscription so that both of us can benefit. However, I am assuming that she would have to sign in on my account. Does anyone know if this is so? So far I haven't tried to sign in on her phone but fear that if we are both signed in on the same account and both driving somewhere separately, there will be a conflict as happened to us in the past with two separate Tomtom devices on two journeys?

Any advice greatly appreciated. Maybe I'm overthinking this. I hope so.

Hi

If you have purchased the family subscription you can share the application with your wife.
I think this link should help you. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201088
Thanks Willy. Yes, I get that and have a family group and indeed can share this app. However, several years ago I had two Tomtoms on the same account and one day I was driving in the north of Scotland and my wife in the countryside near London. Both of us were using our Tomtoms on the same account and in both cases our journey directions interfered with each other to the extent that i was being directed south and she to the north. Therefore, neither worked until one of us, realising what was happening, switched theirs off and the other could continue unimpeded. Once we established separate accounts for each Tomtom, we no longer had that problem.

So, getting back to my original question, might we have the same interference if both of us are on the same account?

You will definitely want separate login credentials. This was also true when you had two TomTom units. Whatever you did on the app or online would sync to both devices concurrently - I'm sure that was a bit an ordeal for both of you! If you had set up two different MyDrive accounts on those TomToms, you would have been able to have separate data.

So do what you can to always set up two different accounts, one for each of you.

IIRC, the eMail address used does not have to be a genuine one with an ISP it just has to be formatted like one. So the second MDC and the device must have the same "username" and password.

Thank you. I hope that will work with the Go app though I'm not sure how (on the 2nd phone if a separate account is set up), TT will recognise that I have paid for a family subscription.

I'm not sure how they're working this. You're the first to bring up the 'family subscription' issue.

I'm guessing that it's a question of the number of devices allowed to use the app based upon downloads to devices per Apple account, though then it's unclear what happens if one member has Apple and another Android.

Requiring all users to share the same location and route data wouldn't be a very practical approach, as you point out from your previous experience.

Keep us posted on which way things work for you.

I’ve loaded it on the other phone and used my account details. Tomorrow we will try it out and see what happens. The advantage of having the same account is that all the saved places get loaded on. I’ll report back.

Sorry, I don't get that because the user name is an email address.

Will be curious to see if a 'current' route planned on one gets sent to the other, though.

Sorry for the delay but my wife and I never got to try out the TT Go app simultaneously as she prefers to keep with her Go Premium 6000. I guess that the same issues would be there so I thought I would transfer the physical device to another account. Before committing to that, I need to copy My Places across to the new account. Does anyone know how this can be done? Btw, I have started a new discussion with this question.

You need to see two accounts separately:
  • Apple IDs set up as a family are handling the subscription.
  • TomTom accounts are storing your personal favorites and routes in the cloud.
The idea of the family subscription is that you can log in with your individual TomTom accounts.
