TomTom Go Expert on Android
Wondering if anyone else sees this - Go Expert seems to base speed limits on whether you select car, or truck, in your vehicle profile.
For truck it gives the limits for a heavy truck. So for my less than 3.5T vehicle the limits are pretty much always wrong, on all roads, in all countries (other than 30mph urban streets etc. where the limits are all the same anyway)

When I report this to support I just get told to report it as a map error. This is daft, they are all wrong!

Anyone else out there got a light truck? Why does the app have options for vehicle weight then ignore it when displaying speed limits?

If your vehicle weighs less than 3.5 tonnes, the speed limits should correspond to the speed limit for a car.

If your vehicle weighs less than 3.5 tonnes, the speed limits should correspond to the speed limit for a car.
That's completely incorrect.

E.g. in the UK, on a dual carriageway (not a motorway) the national speed limit for a car is 70MPH. For a 3.5T van it's 60MPH.
On a single lane carriageway, the national speed limit for a car is 60MPG. For a 3.5T van it's 50MPH.
Similar restrictions exist in most countries for vehicles heavier than 3.05T but less than 3.5T.

The limits for heavier trucks are different again, slower, and that's what tomtom insists on incorrectly showing me as I have selected vehicle type of truck.

Also, if I select a vehicle type of car to see the car limits (which as I've already said are still wrong) it means I can no longer enter vehicle dimensions to be used as part of the routing algorithm, which is the whole point of using tomtom expert in the first place!

I must say, I'm now completely confused, and I think I see why Willy is as well, assuming you are driving in the UK.

In your first post, you said "So for my less than 3.5T vehicle..."

In your second post, you kept reminding us of what the speed limits were for vehicles > 3.5T in the UK compares to your vehicle, which is < 3.5T.

From what I’ve found, it seems TomTom likely uses the same criteria.

United Kingdom Speed Limits

Motorcycles, cars, and vans
Motorway speed limit: 70 mph (112 km/h)
Dual carriageway speed limit: 70 mph (112 km/h)
General road speed limit: 60 mph (96 km/h)
Built-up area / urban speed limit: 30 mph (48 km/h)

Cars and vans towing a trailer or caravan
Motorway speed limit: 60 mph (96 km/h)
Dual carriageway speed limit: 60 mph (96 km/h)
General road speed limit: 50 mph (80 km/h)
Built-up area / urban speed limit: 30 mph (48 km/h)

Vehicles between 3.5 tonnes and 7.5 tonnes (GVW)
This category includes most large vans, large motorhomes, and small trucks.

Road type
Built-up area (urban zones): 30 mph (~48 km/h)
Single carriageway: 50 mph (~80 km/h)
Dual carriageway: 60 mph (~96 km/h)
Motorway: 70 mph (60 mph if articulated or towing a trailer) (~112 km/h / ~96 km/h)

Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes (GVW)

Road type
Built-up area (urban zones): 30 mph (~48 km/h)
Single carriageway: 50 mph (~80 km/h)
Dual carriageway: 60 mph (~96 km/h)
Motorway: 60 mph (~96 km/h)

Let me give specific examples - I have coded the vehicle weight to be 3.4T in the vehicle profile. I pick truck as the vehicle type as that's the only way you get to enter vehicle dimensions which I want to use in routing, the van is 6m long and 3.25m high.

On the A1 in Northern Ireland, a dual carriageway where the car speed limit is 70(mph) and my speed limit should be 60, tomtom shows me 50.
On the M2 in Northern Ireland, a motorway, where the car limit is 70 and my limit should also be 70, tomtom shows me 60.
On the R173 in Ireland, a single carriageway, where the limit is 80(kph) for cars and my limit should also be 80, tomtom shows me 60 (which is the speed for vehicles over 3.5T)
On the E40 in Belgium, a motorway, the speed limit for cars is 120, my speed limit should be the same however tomtom shows me 90.

I've picked specific roads to try to be clear but it's the case all over and with all road types other than urban streets where the speed limits are generally the same for all vehicles. Tomtom is clearly showing me the speed limits for a trucks >3.5T, sometimes >7.5T, even though I have entered a weight of <3.5T. They don't seem to have considered that you can have a large van with a weight <3.5T.

I want speed warnings, but the constant beeping for false positives makes it unusable.

Only the Heavy Vehicle option is available in the app.

Tap Vehicle Profile.
Check that the Heavy Vehicle option is selected as the vehicle type.
Set the following values:
Vehicle type
Engine type
Dimensions
Weight
Maximum speed
Hazardous cargo
Commercial vehicle

Ok, so on the app you can only get correct speed limits for a car, or a heavy truck. A van or light truck will have incorrect speed limits. Not great is it, I wish I'd known that before I paid for the subscription!
I did report it while I was using it on free trial on a couple of roads in Ireland, but they assured me it was just a map data issue and could be corrected.

Any ideas why the support is different on the app from the hardware version? Or know of any plans to make the app usable for all sizes of truck?
