GO5200
Bonjour,

Hello,

After encountering the SIM card deactivation issue, which was reactivated after discussions with TOMTOM, I'm experiencing a more serious problem.

My GO 5200 keeps shutting down, making it impossible to track a route. Destinations saved in "My Places" are sometimes no longer accessible, the touchscreen stops responding, etc. So, it's no longer usable!

This problem appeared after an update.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Thank you for your replies.

Hi,
Following which update, only the map could be updated?

Have you checked the power supply (car charger cable)?

I find it strange that TomTom reactivated your SIM card.

Maps and speed cameras have been updated.
TOMTOM has successfully reactivated my SIM card.
I replaced the battery, but the problem appeared later. Since I don't use the GPS every day, I can't give a precise time frame.
So, could my problem be related to the battery replacement?

If you don't charge the battery frequently, it may have completely drained.
Try charging the battery on a smartphone wall charger for at least 1 hour, then test.

The battery is almost new, and I've already fully charged it using a 230V mains charger before using the GPS, but the problem is the same.
You said that changing the battery could be the cause of the problem? Can you tell me more?

You should check if your battery is charging properly and see how long it takes to turn off after unplugging it.

More or less two hours... But how could replacing the battery be the cause of the problem?

If the GPS remains on for approximately two hours after disconnecting the battery from the charger, it's no longer a battery problem.

Is your GPS in your car plugged into the cigarette lighter charger that came with it, or is it plugged into a USB port in the car?

Question: If you plug it into a wall charger, does it turn off?

It's plugged into a 12V power supply (in the car). I have several "mounts" for the TomTom, several power cables, and I've plugged it into several vehicles... I still have the same problem!
When I plugged the GPS into the 230V mains (several times), I didn't get the impression that it was cutting out. But I wasn't asking it to "drive" me somewhere; it wasn't in "navigation mode."

So, it's plugged into your car's 5V USB port.
Your problem is this: your USB port only delivers 500 mA, while your GPS needs 2.4 A to function properly.

Plug your GPS into the charger included in the box.

No, it's not plugged into a USB port. It's plugged into a 12V outlet that can handle at least 6A. Also, the GPS has always been plugged into this outlet, so there's no reason why it should suddenly stop working.

Below is one of my cables and support for my GPS.

Here are the "connectors" I'm using, whichever one it is the problem persists. So it's not coming from the GPS power supply...

These are just ideas.

If you say it's plugged into a 230V mains supply without navigation mode, it should work fine.

Have you tried plugging it into your car without navigation mode if the GPS turns off?

Try to identify when the GPS turns off. Perhaps it's turning off because it's overheating?

I haven't tried leaving it plugged in the car when not in navigation mode. I'll try...
