I have a go 300 which has not been used for years charging light on but nothing on screen

Try a drum reset on the unit by holding the power button about 20 seconds till you hear the drum sounds. Unless the device has a dedicated reset hole.

However, that model is considered End of Life by Tomtom which means no further map updates.

I am going from memory, so I am probably wrong, but I believe that this model did have a small hole through which you needed to insert a toothpick, paper clip, or similar "tool" to reset the unit.

Indeed, long since past its prime without any hope of new maps. That unit didn't even have any internal memory, and depended upon the inserted SD card to operate.
