Gas station icons

That's what it is, m8.
Nothing we can do, just accept it.
I guess because only Shell has a partnership with Tomtom :)

dhn,
what s/he mean was why only Shell icon shown in stocked POI Gas Station, there is no Exxon icon, no Mobil icon, no Hess icon, ...... so on......

Yeah, sorta figured that ....

Think your reasoning as to why makes a great deal of sense, especially when one remembers that the home of BOTH TomTom AND Shell is Holland.

sounds like a likely explanation.

How about this one -- how can I change the provided generic icon for all the other gas stations with a different generic icon?

I do not think that is possible. I believe the code for associating icons with specific poi types is hard coded.

I think .......

I get Shell, Chevron, 76, Texaco, Citgo and BP - off the top of my head

There are restaurant icons too... Wendy's, Subway, BK and some others that I can't think of since the only icons I have showing is Airport, Gas, Police and Fire.

I don't think TT allows end-users manipulate its stock POIs, both info and icon.
However, you can create your own gas station POIs, called custom POIs.
The downside of it is you have to create multiple custom POIs if you want to have its logo attached as an icon, i.e, you would have each seperated file (.ov2) for each of different gas brand such Mobil, Exxon, .....

I'm curious about the fact that if you look in your "Brand" folder you'll find an icon of a colored gas pump -- I'm wondering how that's supposed to be used?

Let's say you dl a custom poi file for Brand X gas company and it doesn't have an associated .bmp. Well, you can take one of the .bmp's in the brand folder and rename it to match the .ov2 file and place both in the specific map folder. (case sensitive, etc.).

At this point, you're probably wondering how to tell what each numbered brand .bmp is without looking at each one. Good question! I don't know.

(I do know 7311_1.bmp is the Phillips 76 icon. Does that help? :( )

When one looks at the brand folder for a map, you will see the icons for all the POI.DAT categories and they are grouped according to numbers: 7311 for service station chains, 7314 for motel chains etc. Here<s my old doc for it:

The point is how many icons associate with 7311 category or just Shell?
And can we add Mobil? Exxon? .... to it?

In the BRAND subfolder. I have 7311_1 thru 7311-7 meaning 7 different gaz companies with their individual icon. If you wish to add more, many are available from various POI sites that often have the specific TT format for them and all you need to do is put them (xx.ov2 and matching xx.bmp) in your map folder. When you restart your TT, you should be able to look for them.
