go live 825
As the title suggests I am off to France so decided to purchase a map of France. This was was successful for a fee of £34 odd but was advised insufficient space on my device.Purchased memory card ,inserted it and it formatted correctly.Map downloaded ok taking space from memory but I cannot find map anywhere on device.Only countries shown on address page are UK and Ireland.Sent TT e mail few days ago but they haven't replied.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I presume your unit only has UK. and Ireland mapping. I am very reluctant to update any Tom Tom with new maps because of the 'no space' issue you have experienced. Tom Tom devices are so cheap these days I would have recommended you replacing yours with a European model. Good luck.

Do you have an option for managing map-->switch map on your device?

There are no issues with updating a device that has an available uSD card. However, there are two different models of the 825 (2GB and 4GB internal memory) and it was my impression that neither had an external uSD slot. That he found one on his unit is good news. I may have to update my chart. If the OP had the 4GB model (serial starting with FW) loading up a Western Europe map or adding France would be a piece of cake. However, based upon his post, I suspect he has the 2GB model (serial starting with FY) and would possibly not have enough room to add even France to the unit without adding a memory card.

That said, the MyDrive Connect software is stable, and it's not at all difficult to swap maps on and off units these days. Unlike the 'old days', map ownership data are held 'on account' on the TT server by device serial number, so you don't even have to worry about backing anything up these days.

As dhn suggests, you will need to use the configuration option to switch maps. Unless/until you're there, it will keep you located in the UK. Once you've switched to your France map in the configuration, you'll be able to search and review the map on the other side of the channel.

Hi there. Thanks for your interest. My device is a FW one.Not aware if I have the configuration switch for maps. How do I check?Could I uninstall and try to reinstall French map without fear of "losing" it.Being in my late 60's not the greatest at technical issues. Thanks again.

Sorry to the people that have bothered to reply to my problem.Emphasis on the late 60's above.Playing around with device just now found the switch map button found the French map so I might just celebrate with a trip to Paris. Thanks again.

Our payback: You must sit in a street-side cafe somewhere in Paris and raise a glass to us!
