Trying to update USA and Canada map and got the following message. Not being entirely "computer literate", I am stumped. Have disconnected TT and reconnected to no avail. Please help.

It would appear the downloaded map was corrupt so Home can't install it. Are you by using a wireless router for the downloads? If so, that may be the issue. Try deleting the downloaded map from here:

c:\documents and settings\yourname\my documents\TomTom\Home\Downloads\Complete\Maps\

using Explorer. Then try downloading again with a directly connected computer. (if that is indeed the issue).

Thanks for the reply dhn. I am using a router. I have updated maps twice since subscribing and each time I was using a router. I do, however, have a different router since my last update on 12/3. I went from a Linksys to a Belkin router. Do you think this has made a difference?

I do not know. I just know that directly connected computers have far fewer issues with large data transfers (like maps) from TT servers than do wireless hookups.

Updated!!

dhn... While waiting for your response concerning the routers, I deleted the map file as you suggested. I then downloaded the latest version of HOME and tried the update again and it worked flawlessly. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me with this. I really appreciate it!

Glad things worked out for you.

Now, once the new map is installed, be sure to make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents.

hello.. i have had several issues with doing a map update with previous tomtoms and i just received a tomtom 540s and want to do my map update but i am afraid of doing this since i failed the past 3 times doing the map update.. i have heard that i should used direct internet connection not wifi... and i am not sure how i make a back up in explorer instead of thru tomtom home..

any suggestions or tips on makin this work would be greatly appreciated
