TomTom Model(s)
xxl classic
My xxl has started to produce voice etc with an overlay of very bad white noise distortion. It means that the instructions are unintelligible and renders the unit almost useless.
The voice is there and can be just about heard if you know what is being said. Anybody got an idea. Where is the sound chip on the motherboard would be a help. Or have a spare motherboard

Often, distortion of sound is a symptom of a failing battery. Is yours fully charged? How long can it hold a charge when not connected to a power source -- computer or a mains charger?

Battery is fine. Holds charge well. Distortion is bad on charge and on battery. the problem started suddenly while the unit was in car and connected to charge. There was no gradual failure. One second OK, next distortion Thanks for reply

Try a drum reset on the unit by holding the power button about 20 seconds till you hear the drum sounds unless your model has a dedicated reset hole. If that doesn't help, the unit may be toast. Or you can google for 'satnav repair shops in uk'.
