Cheap TomTom vs Garmin with Traffic

Was watching Good Morning America the other day and they did a test driving across LA using a $89 TomTom vs. and much more expensive Garmin with real time traffic. The car with the TomTom arrived 20 minutes sooner! This kind of fits with my general impression going from a simpler GPS to a TomTom GO620. While hearing the street names is nice, I am not sure that it has much practical value. The traffic function only seems to be used in major cities here in Ontario, and I am not sure how well IQ Routes actually works. So best buy for the buck IMO is the $89 unit, and buy a new one in 2 years rather than pay for the map update.

I wonder what everyone else thinks?

I think IQ routing does work reasonably well, especially in urban environments such as the GTA. Right now, it's the only thing TT has going for it over its competitors .... who are soon to catch up.
