Changing Lanes

Seems that I recall my TT--XL-S telling me to chnge lanes once on a recent trip. Did I remember correctly? Does the XL-S have this capability?

You meant it said "keep to the right lane"
If that's it, then XL-S does have that capability.

Well I think that is what it said -----which leads to the question that if you are on a multilane interstate --a section with 3,4, or 5 lanes ---- will it guide you to the correct lane to avoid getting trapped in a turnoff lane.

Yeah, in a situation like that, you'll hear 'keep left' even when you are on the same highway BUT there is a signicant off ramp coming up. Some find that kind of warning irritating; I personally like the heads up.

In and around large cities interstates tend to spread out into 4 or more lanes in each direction and even though you think you are not in a turnoff lane sometimes you find yourself trapped or almost trapped in one and a lucky quick lane change is in order.

I had this happen to me several times in the past on I10 going around Mobile Alabama. Also in Houston and Dallas Texas. Dallas is the worst I have seen.

Without a heads up on the correct lane you will easily find yourself in trouble especilly with traffic at 80 mph or more.

I would welcome all the help I could get in situations like this.

I hear what you said, GeorgeII.
I was myself in the trouble like that but after using it (GO920) for a month, I figure that whenever TT announcces
+ "keep right lane", I then shift to the right lane but NOT the right-most lane
+ "keep left lane", I then shift to the left lane but NOT the left-most lane.

Taking an example "keep to the right lane", if you go all the way to the right-most lane, it might lead you into the exit lane but if you are on the next lane, you should be fine.

the sweet go 930 has advanced lane guidance; that doesn't sound like what you had. i think your situation is more of a warning of an exit.
