Can'r connect to computer

Ok I've connected my new 1000 to the notebook and it's saying the device is not connected

Why do Tomtom make things so hard !!

I just want to simply connect the device and install new firmware
 
Using the cable that came with the device? Are you using MyTomTom (get it at tomtom.com/getstarted) and NOT Home 2? (which won't work with that device)
 
What EXACTLY is the PC saying when it's "not connected"

Do you know that the Go1000 will not appear as a mass storage device like the older models did?
It appears as a network adapter.
