Can someone that has the new 715 map on a 920 please post the poi files as i would like to add it to my 710 map. Thanks

I have a 720 and have also wondered if anyone is going to post the poi's from the 920's 715 map version. I find it funny that not even one person has replied to this thread...

Vent: I'm sure that if it were advertised how the 920 had much more to offer as far as POI's are concerned, many more people might have found it worth while to fork out the extra money at the time. Instead, I'm stuck with a 720 that has crap POI's. Not to even start on how the POI's are layed out and only show a limited amount of hits per search!

Go to this thread:

post 64 has a link to get the larger poi.dat files

Which, as I understand, is STILL three times the size of the 720's poi file.

From my post in another thread:
_____
Some info on the different (cr)poi.dat on maps versions and builds:

North_America v 715 build=1712
64,866,141 crpoi.dat
99,379,497 poi.dat
2 files 164,245,638 bytes

North_America v 710 build=1609
169,182,083 crpoi.dat
276,320,345 poi.dat
2 files 445,502,428 bytes

USA_and_Canada v 710 build=1575
57,939,335 poi.dat

I do not know about other versions/builds. If one has other info, go ahead...
____
AFAIK, no one has added other versions or builds.

Your figures just reaffirm what I said: the 1609 build is for the 920. At 276 megs, the poi file is roughly 3 times the 7.15 file for the 720.

If North_America v 715 build=1712 is for the 920, I wonder why TT has reduced it considerably from the previous version?

Those figures above are untrue.

I have both versions and as I recall, the new 715 pois are about 5mb bigger than the 710 version. Both are combined more than 250mb! It is not a big deal to upgarde as the difference was miniscule.

I will confirm later tonight!

What I would appreciate that you do is do a copy and paste of the map's pna extention for the version and build number, open a cmd window, go to your map's directory and do a ?dir *poi.dat > dirpoi.txt? then do a copy and paste of that file will give the exact size of the pois with the corresponding version and build number. That is the method I've used.

screen captures from my file manager....

North America v7.15 map comes in two different versions identically priced at Tomtom at 99$US. One for the GO720 which is a 1683MB download (referred as the 2GB on the TT site) and the other for the GO920 which is a 1953MB download which contains the larger POI.DAT file infama referred to.

I take it you have a 720, no?

That is DHN's point...people who upgraded to 715 with a 720 should copy over the POIs from the 710 map that are linked in a thread here. They work perfectly. The "920" POIs for the 715 map is not significantly different (just 3mb or 1%)
