Does anybody use Tom Tom to navigate on the water? I am new to this site and look fwd. to the info that most of you have.

Welcome to TTF. I'm afraid TomTom models aren't meant for anything off road. There are Garmin models (and maybe some from other brands) that are geared to function on the water.
 
What dhn said, they don't work on the water (I know as I tested it), you need something like a Lowrance or similar for water navigating, so you can put in way points to navigate to, also you need ones that will show the lake/river shorelines to see where you are.......that's what I used when I was heavily into boating/fishing..........
