TomTom Model(s)
550
I have used a model 550 for years and this is my 2nd one. Suddenly I cannot get it to Bluetooth to my phone. I was using a Motorola 5G Stylus 2024 and it would show connected/disconnected over and over. I just tried a Motorola 5g 2024 (not a stylus) and it will not connect. It shows the options for the phone when it "connects" but then under Bluetooth settings it does not show it connected. The phones themselves say they were connected each time. I have rebooted the phone and the GPS a few times. I told everyone to forget each other then repaired them and same problem. Any suggestions?

If you're just using Bluetooth to connect your 550 to TomTom's servers, consider switching to using the WiFi capability of the 550 instead. Set your phone up as a WiFi hotspot. I find it more stable than Bluetooth.

I use the WiFi option when stuck trying to get a new track or waypoints downloaded but Bluetooth used to work fine. I only run WiFi when necessary as it runs down the battery on the phone. I am really curious why the Bluetooth has now decided to not work. I have even reset the unit and, as stated, tried 2 phones.

Mine does the exact same thing. It's a pain using the Tom Tom now as most of the time it's lost its live services even though they claim it should work perfectly via your mobile. Sadly even their newer models work via a mobile as well as I would of been happy to buy a new one if they were independent

My bluetooth also does not connect for live services which is a real pain as I use the WiFi as a remote control for the camera. So I now have to choose between camera or live services - very unhappy with Tomtom as before they trashed the on-board Sim everything worked perfectly.

Sounds like a phone problem. My Samsung Galaxy will support up to 10 devices at once, so there wouldn't be an issue of having to decide what to connect. What kind of phone do you have??

This may or may not be a solution for you.

I have a GO620 for my car. Due to a recent update (I can't call it an upgrade), to get the Bluetooth on my Samsung S10 to connect to live services and my 620, I found I had to turn on Bluetooth Tethering - bingo, instant connect.
Go to Settings | Connections | Mobile Hotspot and Tethering | turn on tethering

The unfortunate thing is every couple of days on my S10, I have to make sure it's still turned on. If only there was a schedule I could setup that automatically turned it on every day.

Thanks I found this setting on my Motorola. Mine was off also.
Go to Settings | Network & Internet | Hotspot and Tethering | Blue Tooth tethering
I thought maybe you had found it but no. When I pair them the 550 says for me to pair turn on the phone. They both are in the pair mode and the phone asks me if this is the right code to pair to. Meanwhile TomTom does nothing but sit on the turn it on to pair screen. Then, when I tell the phone it is the right code even though I am not sure, the phone appears on the GPS but is not connected. The phone says all is fine and working but it isn't.

Yes mine is like this.

Tom Tom have ruined a perfectly good system. Sadly I can't see them surviving by making this change as its caused so much upset.

We haven't had 2G cell service here in North America for a couple of years now, and we've survived. Just a matter of becoming adjusted to the new ways (more than one option) of doing things.

A solution working, at least, for me (Tomtom 550, mobile HUAWEI P30)

- pairing after resetting Tomtom and mobile,
- cancel the Tomtom Wifi connection,
- launch, on the mobile, Mydrive (v2.20.0)

And evrithing works fine.

But Tomtom has decided to cancel Mydrive. https://help.tomtom.com/hc/en-gb/articles/20495627169554-MyDrive-mobile-app-discontinuation

And therefore "Models that offered See who’s calling and/or Smartphone messaging functionality, will unfortunately no longer be able to offer this feature as it requires a connection through the mobile app."

I had MyDrive on the phone but removed it because it was no longer supported. Seems TomTom has an operating agenda of "If it works, drop it".
