TomTom Model(s)
GO6100
I have an ageing GO6100 which is slowly dying.
Currently I am thinking of getting a Camper Max as a replacement. Since TomTom no longer offers devices with built in modems the data connection has to go through your phone.
How does the TomTom handle the Bluetooth connections? Can you connect to the TomTom for data and to the Bluetooth connection of the car for phone calls at the same time?

I would recommend using your phone's WiFi hotspot for the TomTom traffic connection, and then save the Bluetooth connection of your phone for any hands-free vehicle connections.

WiFi hotspot uses a lot more power and I don't want to have to plug the phone in continuously on longer drives.

Not sure what the problem is plugging in the phone, but my Samsung S20 is often asked to supply a pair of TomTom devices with traffic for a full 8 hour day. Unplugged and no issues.

For the folks who lost cellular 2G connectivity here (the 5x00 and 6x00, and a couple of the newer devices), we've been recommending WiFi vs. Bluetooth as the more stable connection of the two. For those without cellular who have had big problems connecting iOS devices with Bluetooth, we've also been recommending WiFi as the more stable alternative.

One thing to remember is that although WiFi uses a higher transmit power, it's operating at a much higher speed, so the necessary time to transmit the updates every 2 minutes is shorter.

Yes, you can - this is what I do with one of my devices. I did find the status reporting of my TomTom to be misleading when pairing so at the risk of blowing my own trumpet, may I refer you to the following post where I explained how I got mine to work perfectly well with Bluetooth:

I was at a store today where they had a Go Camper Max on display and it connects to my phone as a computer over Bluetooth. That seems to work fine.
I was worried that it would connect as a carkit but luckily it doesn't.
It seemed to refresh pretty fast over Bluetooth through my Pixel 8 Pro. The units on display were not connected to WiFi so everything went through the Bluetooth connectivity.
