Best TomTom for easily creating/downloading my own routes?

I currently have a garmin, which I am about to throw out the window at high speed. I need a gps that allows me EASILY to either program or download my own custom routes -- ideally from google maps, definitely not from Mapquest. I've been pointed towards the XL/XXL devices by TomTom, but I see those are already 2 years old. I'd like a newer model. Advice? Thanks!
