It looks like Tomtom published a bad quickgpsfix over the weekend. My 720 is having a difficult time picking up a signal.

This happens every 3-6 months, and Tomtom usually corrects it within a few days.

Personally, I've been avoiding their Quickfix updates. Seems like at least one of every 10 is flawed. If you use your device every other day or so, no real benefit that I see. The best option would be autonomous quickfix data, but it doesn't appear TT wants to do that.

I like QuickGPSfix. For the 9/10 weeks that it works, it makes things quick and easy.

For the 1/10 weeks that its broken, my Tomtom acts like there was no quickfix at all. No worse (for me) than not using QuickGPSfix.

It is surprising that autonomous quickgpsfix isn't on the latest Tomtoms, SirfStar offers it to all its SirfStar III customers. And Garmin bought it. Either Tomtom didn't want to pay the license fee, or they want a reason for users to plug in and provide anonymous data.

I have pseudo-autonomous Quickgpsfix: I enable bluetooth autoQuickGPSfix so I never plug into a computer unless I'm downloading a new map / application (or researching another member's question on this forum).

I had the same issue with my GO 630 not picking up the satellites for up to 5 minutes. Fixed it by forcing a complete download of a new QuickGPSfix file @ .1mb in size. Now sat's are picked up immediately upon startup.

Did this by deleting the files on my Go in the "ephem" folder and then deleting all the files on the PC in "x:\Documents and Settings\"User Name"\My Documents\TomTom\Home\Download\complete\ephemeris\QuickGPSfix".

So, I've deleted the contents of both folders, restarted Home & pin reset my 720. But for some reason, Home's updater keeps reporting: "No Items Available. "

Is there a way to force the QuickGPSFix update?

Thanks.

I think I got it. I removed the "ephemeris" folder & all "QuickFix" subfolders, entirely, and Home fed me a new update.

Will try it out on the way home tonight.
