Anyone have the new maps yet? (frustrated owner)

I recently purchased the Tomtom One and while I love the design, features, and menus, the maps for my area (Columbus, Ohio) are largely incomplete. Tomtom is missing several important roads that have been established for at least a decade.

I read about the very recent map update, but I'm just considering returning the unit for a Garmin (which does have the roads that Tomtom lacks). I would rather keep the tomtom, as I like the features better, but if it can't navigate around the 15th largest city in the US properly, then how can I be comfortable if I take it on a trip?

Is there anywhere online where I can see a tele atlas map for my region? (not navigate on, but just look at, like google maps?)

I know the map update only costs the shipping charges, but I don't want to use up the promotional codes if I'm going to return the device.

Hang in Threre

I have gone through the same flustrations as you, but I think your best bet is stay with your TomTom. The new maps are on the way and should be in your hands in a couple of weeks. I bought my 910 back in June and have only gone on a couple of long trips and it was really a lifesaver. The more I use my unit the better I like it. It's going to take you awhile to really get familiar with all the bells and whistles your TomTom offers, but I think you will ultimately be happier the more you use it. Another big plus is this great forum for TomTom users.

Go to www.teleatlas.com and look for a link for Teleatlas Map Insight. That's their procedure for taking user submitted map errors. The first step in the process to submit an error is to browse on their map until its showing the area with the error. If you're curious about their maps, just browse with it, and don't submit anything.

I just checked out the mapinsight link and it shows the errors I found mostly corrected! I'm going to go ahead and order the updated maps - hopefully the corrections I saw on the mapinsight will be reflected on the latest map release.

Thanks Thorn, I'm now excited again to own tomtom. :D

phew, I've submitted waay too many :|

Their labelling is spotty. I mean, why label "Exit 41b" and yet Exit 41a isn't labelled?!?!

I'm curious too to see if some things I sent Teleatlas are fixed. There was a 100 mile section of 4 lane divided highway that Tomtom always calculated at 35mph, which threw off its selection for fastest route. Back in June 2006 I got an email reply from Teleatlas that they had fixed it to be a minimum of 55mph which ought to help. I'm hopeful the new maps have data at least that recent. It would be interesting to know if Tomtom has to do a bunch of prep work to the Teleatlas data before its usable on their platform.

BTW, this was a really interesting article about how Teleatlas is shifting their data acquisition method to one I think makes alot more sense. Wired Mag. article

Well it will have a few errors that's for sure, but in the Netherlands we have the V6.60.1223 from Tele Atlas and the Europe V6.60.1256 from NavteQ.

Both versions are the newest, while the NavteQ maps seem to be more up to date ;)

And then this was also spotted:

Great.. what if I have a ONE and yet the site says no when I input my product code?

I mean, if this update is the same as mine, then no big deal. I have 6.60.1215 (which apparently only one other TT1 user has on this site). I'm curious as to the version number of this update.

I'll have to wait for you guys to get your DVDs.

I would definitely check that with TomTom, they are being very diligent with making sure that people are getting the new updates. It's great-- first they are giving $100 off their products and now there are free upgrades for the 510, 910 and ONE-- sounds like you can't go wrong!

Hi, Nextourer,

I also have a ONE with 660.1215 maps. When I input my product code, it too tells me I have the most updated maps. However, I ignored that and clicked "order maps" anyway. It then asked for the serial number on my unit, and let me proceed to pay my $6 to get the new maps.

Also, for what it's worth, I called TomTom support about a week ago on another matter, but did ask them if I should order the new maps for my one. The answer was yes, the new maps they are sending out newer than what's on my ONE.

Hope this helps you.

HHHHHHHmmmmmmmmmm

I picked up my ONE from Portsmouth NH BestBuy on 12/28/06. According to my "code" last week I was set on the maps. Reading this latest post I decided to recheck my code at TomTom.com

This is what it says now:
We advise you not to update your map. You already have one of the most up-to-date maps available (version 6.5 or 6.6). However, you can select maps of other countries or continents.

If the latest and greatest is available, why don't I get a link or something for my free upgrade?

From this page... http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/?Lid=4&TT=niofatvnhv7hah1k5639lko2g4

you can input your product code and have it tell you that you have the latest maps. You can also click BUY NOW and go through the process of entering your serial number, and they'll charge you $6 for shipping.

I have 6.60 maps on my ONE and the new maps are the newest version, different numbers and everything.

Let us know what happens!

Ah Ha!!!!

Gotta be VERY careful which link you follow apparently. Your link allows me the free upgrade and the $6 shipping. The other link had me paying full price!!

Thanks fanchee!

Great news! Now we wait for the maps.... rather impatiently in my case, I might add. :)

Shortly, you'll receive an e-mail confirming your order with us. If you do not receive the confirmation e-mail within 24 hours, please call TomTom Customer Support at 866-486-6866.

You should receive your new maps of the US and Canada in about 3-4 weeks.

3-4 weeks?!?!?! Wish we could just download it....

Not to mention I already have a support question into them that is 3 days old with still no answer. sigh.

I know, I ordered mine a little over a week ago now, so maybe I only have 2 more weeks to suffer through. LOL.

Hi fanchee,

yeah, I've ordered them already and paid my $6. I do hope it's better. As of now, 660.1215 is missing West Edmonton Mall, Vancouver Art Gallery, Seattle Premium Outlets (and neighbouring Tulalip Casino) in addition to the various road errors that I've already submitted.

Oh and Rogers Video, IKEA, Home Depot etc aren't searchable POIs.
