740TM won't pair correclty with Verizion phone

I just got the 740TM and am trying to set up the handsfree calling. The TomTom will tell me that the phone has paired, and the phone looks like it has, but when I attempt to make a call I get the message that the phone is not connected. I know that all of the funtionality isn't supported but the handsfree calling is suppose to be, any ideas?

Pairing must be initiated by the Tomtom.

Did you set the phone to discoverable, and have the Tomtom search for it under "add phone"?
