540XXL: Bridge = Branch

My 540XXL pronounces the word "bridge" as "branch". The unit spells and displays the word "bridge" correctly... Is there a fix for my 540 ??? Thanks!

You'll need to rename one file and modify another.

In your map folder (North America or whatever one you're running) rename the file cphoneme.dat to cphoneme.old

Next, modify the .lex file as indicated below with Notepad or some other rudimentary text editor:

[drive]:\LoquendoTTS\data\roadnrEnglishUS.lex

In that file on my 740, the "br" is on line 48. Change it from

"br" = "branch"

to

"br" = "bridge"

Thanks for the info; two additional questions:

1) Will I have to re-apply the fix each time I update my map ?

2) What becomes of the cphoneme.dat once it is renamed to .old ?

1. Yes, if the problems still exist in future maps.

2. Just sits there, being ignored by the application which now looks to the 'hint' files for proper pronunciation.
