What is going on! Every time I have an update it takes about 2 days! Ok 8GB is reasonably large to download on wifi, but 2 days is bullshit!

And no, it's not my broadband, I have 500mb/s, I'm getting 462mb/s over wifi when next to the router on my phone, sat nav is right next to it also.

Can't check the speed the sat nav is getting until about august 14th when it finishes updating.

Last time I'll buy a tomtom.

It finished the update! Yeah

Then said it had no maps? So now it's downloading! 3 hours in at 7%

It isn't just me, this is atrocious!

Google maps for me, tomtom is insanely bad!

Thanks for your reply

Not sure which two letters you mean

Model number first two digits are: 4P
FCC ID: S4

At this moment I quit at 23% after nearly 4 days (FOUR DAYS!). Pretty much a brick right now.

@Logicdon
Serial number, not model number.
If a GO Essential, will start with ZN (5" model) or ZE (6" model).
That said, I just pulled down another 8GB map set for one of my units today, and it took about 3 hours. Makes me wonder if you have TT server vs. ISP issues over there that we're not having with the server over here.

I found it

ZN

not sure what you mean by tt v isp issues.

What I do know is Tomtom is a disgraceful piece of crap!

Paid good money for a reputable brand and got f****d over

I consider it bricked........nice £200 down the drain

Might you have a firewall or antivirus software affecting proper transmission of data?

No, tried using 4g (which has no security) rather than my WiFi. Exactly the same.

This is not a problem unique to me, if you google it many people are having the same issue. All replies claim the user is at fault eg. 'Bad WiFi'. Tomtom will simply not address the issue at all. I threw £200 down the drain. Mr Tomtom will no doubt be laughing while drinking a banana daiquiri on his yacht.

Added the 3.85 Northern Europe map in 48 minutes on GO 620 (ZE, same guts as ZN).
Have a 2.4 / 5 Mhz modem. Used WiFi but plugged in to mains. Saturday morning here.

@Arno
That's why I'm wondering if it's some kind of interaction between the OP's ISP and TT's server, and whether it's some kind of regional issue. Just not seeing these kinds of slow downs here in Colorado, and you're not seeing them in Toronto.

I'm in UK.

No idea what's going on. I've only used it about 10 times. When it works it's great, but right now it's bricked.

Thinking maybe factory reset

Ok fixed!

Did a soft reset (held power button for about 20 seconds) and plugged the USB cable in pc rather than phone charger.

Downloaded 8GB in about 20 minutes.

Not sure whether the reset or plugging into the pc was the key. I noticed after the update that it was not connected to WiFi when plugged into the pc (automatically connected to WiFi when I unplugged it). So possibly updated via ethernet even though I have no tomtom software installed!

Thanks for your help guys

Unless you had MyDrive Connect running in the background, Mains or PC power make no difference.

When you pull the plug or opt for Sleep, nothing changes from the previous state, If using Turn Off the system will always go through a soft reset with the drum roll.
Until you get thoroughly used to the device it will be a good habit to spend those extra 30 seconds.
