New RDS-TMC cable from Ebay fixed my problems

The replacement cable from Ebay, which cost less than $10, sure beats having to buy the subscription renewal from TomTom (which costs $60). And, there's software issues with the renewal, as both of us have ran into! I too had to abandon a perfectly-good paid renewal, because the TomTom...

Horrible Experience-Don't Buy TomTom If You Are a Mac SnowLeopard User

Not a bad idea. My experiences with TomTom are among the worst I've ever had with any corporation that makes consumer products. Extremely brittle software, and useless tech support, are a bad combination. The one good thing about your TomTom is that it's a recent purchase. I hope you can...

New RDS-TMC cable from Ebay fixed my problems

Wow, so each cable has a preprogrammed expiration date that it transmits to the TomTom? If a cable has been sitting on a shelf for over a year, then wouldn't it be DOA when installed, because the date has expired by then? TomTom cables must have quick stock turnover :) Maybe that's why my...

Have 930, got 910, which is better?

Good to know that. Spinning hard drives in portable devices are a really bad idea to begin with: remember the iPod Classic that everybody used to own about 5-10 years ago, and how almost none of them still work. As soon as I saw the mount, I was skeptical. That thing is a safety hazard. No...

Have 930, got 910, which is better?

Thanks! Yes, I meant the normal 3D driving display, had a thinko there. I needed to turn off the "feature" where it hides the helpful 3D map, that places everything in context, and replaces the screen with just a single arrow, leaving you effectively blinded. It's the same as the ALG...

New RDS-TMC cable from Ebay fixed my problems

Great news, my TomTom 930 once again receives traffic! It was the cable's fault, not the jack in the TomTom, which is good. TomTom support wouldn't help me, because my device is out of warranty and they don't sell that part over the phone. I bought a new RDS-TMC cable on Ebay, and it now...

Have 930, got 910, which is better?

I have a TomTom 930. Recently, I also received a hand-me-down TomTom 910 from a relative. The TomTom 910 appears to be working, but is no longer needed because they bought a new car with built-in GPS. I'm wondering, which is better? From what I could see, the TomTom 910 has much larger...

Can A Guy Get Some Maps?

That happened to me as well. I learned a rude surprise when I tried to buy another year of RDS-TMC traffic service from the TomTom online store. The credit card billing site is in the Netherlands! Instead of being refused, though, I got charged a hefty "international conversion" fee by my...

    TomTom 930T full factory reset?

Thanks for the advice. As it is now, I'll probably reset my TomTom into the trashcan and buy a Garmin.

    TomTom 930T full factory reset?

Thanks for the advice. Wish I had known that when first buying the GPS. Most computerized consumer devices these days have a "restore", or "factory default", option that puts it back to the full factory state. Even my TV has this! It's unfortunate that TomTom doesn't provide this feature...

    TomTom 930T full factory reset?

Does that just reset the settings? I would like to reset all the software versions as well, not just the settings. I'm looking for a way to pretty much image the thing with the factory software load that it came with.

    TomTom 930T full factory reset?

Hi. Is it possible to do a full factory reset of the TomTom 930T? My unit has been misbehaving, and I'd love to restore it. Ideally, I'd wipe everything back to the way it started, including all software updates, and so on. The software has just suffered rot over time: 1) Bluetooth...

USB traffic compatible with GO 930?

Do you know the part number for the North America USB antenna? Called TomTom tech support, useless as usual, sigh.

Unable to find source to buy new traffic receiver cable

Thanks for the warning. Does this mean that I'm SOL with regards to getting another receiver cable?

Unable to find source to buy new traffic receiver cable

I have a TomTom 930T, with a broken traffic receiver cable. I believe the round port on my TomTom is broken, not just the cable. The good news is that TomTom now sells a cable that connects through the existing USB port, and can receive traffic data through that! The bad news is that I've...

TomTom RDS-TMC cable not making good contact?

Wow, interesting. I didn't know that, and that would explain the extremely high cost of what I thought was just an antenna cable. That's great! I didn't know the USB port could be used in 2 directions: both to the PC, and also to an accessory device like this. I think my round socket...

    Arrrrrrrgh TT Customer Support!!!!!

Very true. I get the feeling TomTom staff just isn't trained very well in the USA. They don't know their own products. What's more, they seem to be unaware of the confusing naming system TomTom uses: there's substantial differences between "950" and "950 Live", and "930" and "930T", and so...

TomTom RDS-TMC cable not making good contact?

Called TomTom, can't get replacement cable I called TomTom. The lady on the phone was rather eager to help, but unfortunately, did not know anything. She told me my TomTom 930T was out of warranty, as it is over 1 year old, and that there's nothing she can do for me. I wanted to buy...

TomTom RDS-TMC cable not making good contact?

Unfortunately, I don't know anybody else with a TomTom. That's unfortunate that the socket would go bad. Would TomTom be able to repair this? Or, is it considered out of warranty? I'm thinking I might have to become yet another refugee who goes over to Garmin. It's interesting how the...

TomTom RDS-TMC cable not making good contact?

The RDS-TMC connector has the male plug, kind of like a RCA jack but not quite. The power connector for the TomTom 930T is USB, though.
