Apple tablet to run iPhone OS - hopefully TT app is coming

Mcgraw Hill leaked that the apple tablet will run the iPhone OS, Wsj is saying the tablet will have navigation.

I hope that means Tomtom will soon port their iPhone app to the tablet. A nice big 10" GPS will be a welcome addition to my car.

Apple says "all iPhone apps will run unmodified out-of-the-box".

No mention (yet) of an onboard GPS chip, so the Tomtom app may need a separate GPS mount to function.

The only mention of GPS is A-GPS available on the models with the 3G capability, this would lead me to suspect it will be capable of basic (rather inaccurate) positional information using triangulation from the mobile phone masts. Also their adverts now claim it will run most of the apps in the app store intended for the iPhone, the word most certainly doesn't mean all, and I guess the nav apps would run on it but without a decent position fix they would be as good as useless - Mike

There's a few discussions around the internet on "A-GPS".

It seems A-GPS in Apple-speak means a GPS that can pull location from cell-tower, wifi, and satellite.

The iPhone 3Gs has a true satellite GPS receiver, yet Apple's website says the same "A-GPS" for the 3Gs as it does for the 3G-enabled iPad.

Eventually someone will teardown an iPad and confirm, but hopefully Apple confirms sooner.
