TomTom to announce Go 740 Live for North America on 1/8/09

TomTom will be announcing the Go740 series for North America tomorrow, January 8th, 2009 at CES. What is the Go x40 series all about? The best thing is to provide a link to the UK TomTom site where they have had the x40 since the end of October. Go here. Make sure you set your country as 'United Kingdom' if the link doesn't seem to work. Also, check this out for further details.

TomTom announced a new model today for the US. Named the Ease, it's TomTom's new entry-level device, retailing for $100. It appears to be very similar to the already announced Start in Europe (in fact may be identical except for maps), with 3.5" screen, EasyPort mount, US maps including about 3 million poi's. The simple 2 button menu still offers IQR, Help Me and TTS. Not yet appearing in retail...

Mcgraw Hill leaked that the apple tablet will run the iPhone OS, Wsj is saying the tablet will have navigation. I hope that means Tomtom will soon port their iPhone app to the tablet. A nice big 10" GPS will be a welcome addition to my car.

Cheaper Maps for Canadians ( Multi-page thread

On the Canadian TomTom web site, the appropriate North American version of the map is now $53.97 while the Western Europe is $59.97, both prices reflect a 40% savings (up from an initial %30 when the Canadian map site started working a couple of weeks ago). How long these savings will last, who knows? What's somewhat unusual is the fact that Tom Tom normally does not start discounting...

BUT.... as of November 13th at Noon, ET, if you click through the links, all that is offered is still a 835 version of the map you desire. (naturally, the TomTom Canada map site is 'down for repairs', as it has been for 2 years! :mad: ) Now, it may just be advising that maps for countries not formerly covered by TomTom are now available but it also may be an indication that it seems evident...
