TomTom Model(s)
Tomtom GO for Android
All, since Tomtom appears to be reading this forum, and in hopes of helping Tomtom prioritize new feature introduction, I am setting up this thread as a way for people to vote for their most wanted new features.

Please reply to this thread with your most wanted new features, and rate each from 1 (little importance to you) to 5 (very important to you).

About once a week, I'll edit this initial post with a tabulation of everyone's results. Hopefully, someone from Tomtom is reading this, and will consider the votes of this community as it prioritizes its development.

A couple of ground rules:
- Only report functionality that doesn't doesn't exist in any product currently sold by Tomtom. Don't report features that are already available in a newer / more expensive models. I'll remove items from the tabulation if / when Tomtom introduces them on a new model.
- Don't report bugs. I made a separate bug-voting thread here.
- If you see another idea you like, vote for it too. I'll count total votes when I tabulate totals.
- I'll default to a rank of 3 if not specified.
- If you change your mind, reply to the thread with a new post with all your votes again. I'll replace your old votes with the new ones. Please don't edit an earlier post as I may not see it.
- If you're not sure if something is available on a newer / more expensive model, please post a separate thread asking for help first.
- To prevent spamming, I'll only tabulate votes from members who have made at least one non-spam/non-intro post somewhere on this forum, between 15 and 120 days prior to voting. New members, please wait 15 days after a prior post before voting.

Here are the current vote totals:

I'll get things started with my votes:

A preference to decrease or shut off the 5 min u-turn delay - 5
Add a road via mapshare - 4
Auto-sorting of fastest order of stops on an itinerary - 4
Preference for browse mode while navigating (tapping will move the map rather than opening a menu) - 4
Tapless speech recognition - eg by yelling some type of voice keyword so you don't have to use your hands - 3
partner with Alpine/Kenwood/Pionner (or someone similar) and make an aftermarket in-dash tomtom/radio with at least a 7 inch screen - 3
Razr2 bluetooth support - 2
Time of day map features (road restrictions / turn restrictions) - 2

Voice activated dialing via the bluetooth hands free. - 2
A way to add or move existing streets (not just report them). -4
Auto power on when external power is connected. -3

There's one feature that I know I'd rate a 5: I want to disable auto-zooming. I want to be able to see the neighborhood streets around me, even if I'm going through town on the Interstate at 70mph. That would let me use the GPS like a map

Another 5 would be road segments on Map Corrections. I need to be able to specify that the speed limit is 40mph from "A" to "B", and there's no way I'm going to manually select 50 road segments to do so. Same with street names. I could live with picking A-to-B on the eastbound side, and then repeating the operation for the westbound side, but the current system is nuts.

I'd like the ability to add a Favorite instantly, like you can currently mark a location for correction. That seems so basic, though, that I suspect it already exists in other models (I have a low-end ONE). If not, rate that a 4.

An enhancement related to one mentioned earlier: let me tap a POI in drive mode to display a pop-up. Find some other hot spot to dedicate to the menu. That's a 4.

Speaking of hot spots, there's enough room on the left for two or three action buttons. Let me split it like that instead of taking me to a "quick menu". Rate that a 3.

I'd like HOV lane preference to be on a configuration menu like toll road preference, instead of having to be selected every time. Give that a 3.

I'm sure I'll think of others on the way home!

Robert......

Perhaps the application for your model does not include this option but for the Go series, under planning preferences, one selection is how should HOV lanes be dealt with: 1) ask 2) always take 3) always avoid.

Thanks for all the votes so far - one thing I'll add, if you see someone's idea that you like, vote for it also. I'll count total votes for each item when I tabulate weekly.

New features I would like to see

3 - my 930T tries to always have me arrive from the right (so my destination is on my right) but I don't need this and I can't seem to adjust that setting. A preference check box for this item would be nice.

My biggest thing is that the tomtom does not do a very good job of saying what side of the street (left or right) the destination is on. There needs to be something on screen and verbally letting me know what side to watch out for my destination. I realize there is an arrow, but that is hidden behind the finish line, and is difficult to see.- 5

Off the top of my head...

5 Vocalize on which side of the road a destination is located.

5 Vocalize when directions are "Recalculating"

5 NavCore8 SDK!

5 Optional Navigate-To method: Street Name, then City (possibly limited to user's vicinity).

4 Navigate-by-Voice to Favorites

4 Dial-by-Voice, Contacts & individual digits

4 Rewrite the Map Share interface. It's Very clunky when making many changes to a single road and there are some serious limitations: Currently, road segments which are renamed, are still attached (in the database) to the original streets.
For example, renaming a segment of 'Road A' to 'Road B' should make that seg a part of nearby or adjacent (existing) 'Road B' AND the new seg 'B' should NOT be selected when 'A' is selected. Neither of these are the case.

Another example, selecting a long stretch of road for a speed limit change (say, a 30-mile stretch of highway) often results in NO changes to the speed limit or spotty changes to the new speed along that road. This is broken!

(I have reported these as Bugs, directly to TT tech support!)
4 Truely segmented Streets in Map Share for renaming & speed limits. For example, winding country roads with few intersections, but multiple speed limit changes.

3 Selectable POI's in driving view--maybe just a pop-up with Name, Address, & Phone.

3 Customizable quick menu--allow any (first tier) menu icon to be added.

I'm sure there are more.

Well, here's my list. Looks like most of us agree on the things we'd like to see just maybe not in the same order. :)

5 = Let me tap a POI in drive mode to display a pop-up. Find some other hot spot to dedicate to the menu. Robert rated this a 4 and Ricochet rated it a 3 but I rate it a 5.

5 = Remove the left turn restriction. I've been routed almost a mile out of the way just to keep from turning left.

5 = A preference to decrease or shut off the 5 min u-turn delay.

4 = Add or change a road via mapshare.

4 = Preference for browse mode while navigating (tapping will move the map rather than opening a menu)

3 = Fix the speed limit calculation when entering speed limits. I have one right now that I entered as 45mph and one the map it shows as 43mph. It's a truncation/rounding issue. I can duplicate it exactly in an Excel spreadsheet by truncating the conversion and rounding it to the nearest whole number.

3 = Auto-sorting of fastest order of stops on an itinerary

2 = Add a customizable left screen menu with 3 or 4 buttons. Make them small so they don't take an excess amount of real estate.

5 - A way for TomTom to disable stolen units.

5 - A way to track stolen units - maybe add a transmitter device into each gps.

4 - Fingerprint identification instead of user password input may be a way to deter thieves.

I know these are too far-fetched, but they would be nice features.

I'm still waiting for that call from the police telling me they have found my stolen items, but I have a feeling it's never going to happen. I remember I spent $500 on my Go910!

The one thing that I wish with HOV would be to tell you when one person driving can use this HOV according to day of the week and time of the day. Unfortunately different roads have different times when you can use them. But still would like this featured added to tom tom.

Most Wanted

I think there are a lot of very good ideas. The following features are lacking on my 930 and I feel they are gotta-haves to bring TT into the current State-Of-Today for GPS's

5 - Alphanumeric Address street number entry, like Garmin and Magellan
5 - A preference currently exists to avoid tollways, I'd like a preference to avoid non-highways, non-tollways, like Garmin
5 - ability to locate a streets without knowing the city or state, like Garmin

my 930T tries to always have me arrive from the right (so my destination is on my right) but I don't need this and I can't seem to adjust that setting. A preference check box for this item would be nice.

My TT Go 730 routes me past my destination, then down some side street, to make a U-turn, so the destination is on the right. I've thought it was designed for drivers of big-rig trucks or something.

5 - Just let me turn left to my destination.

5 - When I pull out of a driveway, tell me the shortest route, even if it means turning around in the middle of the block, don't send me around the block. I'm driving a car, not a bus.

All, I did my first tabulation - hopefully it's readable.

I removed the following features:
- disable auto-zooming - available on 720
- add to favorite on main screen - already available on quick menu, combining with "add more custom menu icons to navigation screen"
- HOV lane preference - removed, available on 720
- always arriving on the right - please post a new thread, I could not reproduce. I think it's a map error with a non-divided road shown as divided
- navigate by voice to favorites - available in 740
- avoiding/restricting left turns - cannot reproduce on my tomtom - please post a new thread with examples for research
- metric rounding error when entering speed limits - moved to bug section
- ability to track location of units - available in tomtom WORK devices
- pulling out of a driveway/driving around the block - counted as a vote for the "reduce/eliminate uturn delay" feature

I added the following features, moved from the bugs thread:
- stop having to agree to "legal" disclaimer each time turning on (ranking: brownbutgreen=3, terell=3)

I also made the following additions to my votes, after seeing others' ideas:
- navigate to street before city (or choose "anywhere" as city) 4
- preference to prefer highways / avoid local roads 4
- ability to add more custom menu icons on main navigation screen 3
- vocalize which side of street destination is on 3
- mapshare edits on segments of streets, not just between intersections 3
- allow any menu item on quickmenu 3
- alphanumeric street input 3
- improved selection of long vs short road segments in mapshare 2

Keep the votes coming, thanks.

MVL, thanks for this thread. After I posted it I knew that the metric conversion issue should have been put in the bug list and not here, thanks for moving it.

As for the left turn issue, mine may have been a u-turn issue. If you want to check it out go to Google maps and search for Country Inn & Suites, Tuscaloosa, AL. TT shows it in the same place as Google Maps. My TT 720 routes you off I-20/59 onto McFarland then right onto Skyland then left onto Longview around to Southmont and left onto Mcfarland to the Hotel. Here's a link of how the TT does the routing. from:AL-13/AL-7/County Rd-231/US-11/US-43 to:33.167265,-87.531048 to:4801 Mcfarland Boulevard, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405 (Country Inn & Suites by Carlson) - Google Maps

There's another thing too. The hotel is actually located south of Southmont and East of Mcfarland so the POI is in the wrong place. (It's actually a problem with the street address)

5 - plan routes by dropping markers on a map in HOME, with the software then calculating the best route taking into account the markers.

5 - drag individual legs of a trip onto different roads to have a completely customized trip plan (like Google Maps lets you do).

I did some checking and found my problem with getting sent around the block was actually due to an address location being incorrect. The real address location was in a section of street where a left turn was possible, but the map put the address further away where the street was divided.

preference to avoid highways and/or local roads

The subject feature already exists... what doesn't exist is a preference FOR highways and to AVOID local roads.
