I recently inserted a SD card in the "non-existant" slot. The 1505 TM asked if I wanted to format. I clicked yes. I now have additional storage which is being recognized by the unit. Is this normal?

You're not in any trouble (yet) in North America for fitting maps, but if things get any larger here, that uSD slot could turn out to be very handy. You don't say what size memory card you installed. If we ever get into a crunch in the US the way they did in Europe, a 4GB card might be needed to fit in all of North America at the same time. Understand that a map can't be split across internal and external memory, hence the need for a card that would fit a map that grew to bigger than 2GB. Meanwhile, not a bunch for you to do with that space unless you want to load massive amounts of custom POI data.
