I don't believe a Clio is likely to have a windscreen made with reflective material that would block a GPS signal. We see that once in a while on higher end German cars. However, remove the 60 from the vehicle and give it a go outside. If the satellite signal is good enough to establish a lock outside and not in, then you've got one we weren't aware of.
Hi thank you for your suggestion. I have tried this several time now and it will work ok
out side the car but after a few minutes after putting it into the car I loose the signal and
get a message saying waiting for a valid GPS signal. I am open to suggestion's
If the device operates outside of the car, but refuses to operate when attached to the windscreen, then you evidently DO have one of the metal oxide windshields. If you can reliably repeat your experiment, then you've got a real problem. For any GPS to work reliably, it will require an external antenna connector, and the wired antenna to go with it. TomTom has not produced such a unit with an external antenna connection for a number of years. You'd also find that radar detectors and many RF based toll devices will show similarly poor reception. While it's a nice feature for reducing the UV entering a vehicle via the windscreen, it's a giant shield against higher frequency RF signals. Wish I had better news.
Thanks for you help. the best part of it is I also have a old Garmin and believe or not that works fine. I chose Tom Tom as a replacement because it a better system.
Something off, then. With the windshield type I'm talking about, no GPS without an external antenna is going to get a signal. We need to start from the beginning since your Garmin works mounted (I assume) in the same spot in the vehicle, but your TomTom only works outside the vehicle? Both will have equivalent sensitivity -- there's not much difference between brands these days in that regard.
I have this morning with the help of a friend been able to try a older TomTom . and that pickup no
less than 8 satellites I then tried mine and it would not pick up a thing.
