Suggestions:
1. If you have a device using MyDriveConnect AND your device has a sd card slot, you should have an 8 or 16 gb card for map expansion and future maps.
2. If you use Home AND your device has a sdhc card slot, put an 8 gb card in there, the faster the speed the better.
3. For devices without a card slot, you should be offered zoned maps for your jurisdiction.
4. Make sure you have the latest application for your device installed BEFORE downloading any maps.

2. Pay attention to dhn's note about "SDHC". Some very old models with firmware that can't be updated to 8.302 or beyond won't take more than a 2GB SD (not SDHC) card, so don't get excited!

Some continue to ask why the need for more memory, and also wonder what to do if they don't even have a slot:

What may not be evident is that TT is adding new road geometry with every map release, and they continue to add more and more detail to both old and new roads for IQRoutes. It all has to fit somewhere. For those without expansion capability, 'zoned maps' were added some time ago. These allow you to load portions of full maps to cover the areas you will be needing. Sometimes, if you're doing a serious cross-country run, this may not be very convenient, but that's how it is. For most, having half the country or so at a time is usually enough. If you're traveling really long distances, you'll want to consider bringing along a small netbook/notebook to shift in a new map zone if needed.

Did you have any grief with Home? Some of us are having to restart the update process to get the downloaded map to start installing to the device.
