No Maps Found - what worked for me

I came here looking for a solution to "No Maps Found!" error on my brand-new ONE LE (or ONE New Edition as TomTom Home identified it). I didn't find it here, but I found it at fixya.com (my gratitude to jtoubia there). Here is my version of what worked. Your mileage may vary, and, you try this at your own risk.

Problem: After updating via Tom Tom Home, I lost any ability to use my ONE LE. Upon startup, it would only come back as No Maps Found! and no amount of tapping changed that, and pushing reset had no effect.

Solution:
1. Connect to your PC via the USB cable. Turn on the ONE LE. Select Yes to connect to your computer.

2. If TomTom Home is running, Exit. Your unit will still be connected as a USB device. (When I say Exit, I mean to be sure the program is not running in the System Tray of the lower right corner of your screen. If it is, right-click and choose Exit).

3. Open My Computer or Windows Explorer. Look for the mapped drive which is your TomTom. In my case, it is Drive letter I:. It will also likely have a red TomTom icon. (Make note of the drive letter for later)

4. Right-click on this drive and choose Properties. Choose the Tools Tab on the pop up window. The first section is Error-checking (in Windows XP). Click the "Check Now..." button.

In the next pop-up, check-mark "Automatically fix file-system errors", and then click the "Start" button. Wait for this to complete. It may or may not tell you that it fixed something.

When this is finished, close all the popup windows, and also close My Computer (or Windows Explorer).

5. In the System Tray (low-right), look for the Safely Remove Hardware icon. In Windows XP, it looks like a left-pointing green arrow above a gray rectangle. You may have to expand the System Tray with the << arrow to see this. Click it one time. Select the TomTom device by the drive letter (in my case, I:), when it says "Safely remove USB mass storage device - drive I:.
Once it says it is Safe to Remove, then disconnect your TomTom.

6. Turn off your TomTom. With the end of a paper clip or similar (safety pin), press down on the recessed Reset button on the bottom of your TomTom. It's a little hole just big enough for the paper clip point. You should be able to feel the "click" when you press down.

7. Turn on your TomTom. Give it time to start up. The "No Maps Found" problem will hopefully be gone for you too.

If someone else can verify that they fixed their unit with this method, we should make this posting a 'sticky'.

worked

It worked for me!!! I couldn't find squat on the TomTom site to fix the problem. I had already tried a restore and never ever disconnected until I was told to do so. I suspect it has to do with thinking a file is still open/owned by another device. I got the same error when I tried to operate the TomTom from the computer.

Mine is a TomTom One XL

Thanks for the post!

It didn't work for me

Hi, a newbie here.

I have tt v.2 w/ latest OS. Latest software installed on windows.

I tried installing western europe map 705.1480 on my tt.
I put all the contents of the map folder into the existing one, then after restarting, I get "No maps Found" screen, and doesn't allow me to go any further. I have tried map swap before with western europe map 660.1256 with the same method. And that time I received message on the screen " The map needs to be activated", with a keygen I was able to use the map 660.1256. With 705.1480, I am not being successful. I tried the steps explained, but that didn't work for me.

If anybody had luck with this version of map, please let me know how and what need to be done.

Before the last step, do you keep the pin (paper clip) pressed while you turn on the TT? Or you don't keep it pressed when you turn on the TT?

Regards,

Ken

I had a similar problem with my One original, after downloading new Australia map. when i looked at Tom Tom via windows explorer I found the new map was installed in a folder called Australia, whereas in my backup the old map was in a folder called Australia-map, I changed the folder name in TomTom with windows explorer and it worked fine.

Here's another fix that's Real easy.

1. Write down any updates from TomTom on your computer. Now delete them.

2. Disable your antivirus. (Just make sure you don't have your browser running.)

3. Re-download any updates you had prior & get your map updates by the using the latest map guarantee link in TomTom Home.

4. Select disconnect device from TomTom Home & upon restarting your TomTom, your maps and other stuff should all be there.

5. Remember to restart Your Anti-Virus.

It seems that TomTom's updates have gone back in the past and are affected by the anti-virus programs. Good Luck!!!

I thought I'd post this as I was having a 'no maps found' problem too. This is what worked for me. In my case I found it was because some system files were missing from my new SD card.

Because my new map wouldn't fit on my SD card suplied with the TomTom I bought a new card. I inserted this card into the tom tom, connected it to my laptop and then ran the updates / new map installation in TomTom Home.

When disconnected and turned on the TomTom This gave me the 'no maps found error'

After trying lots of different remedy suggestions with no success, I finally thought to try copying the entire contents of my previous SD card onto my laptop and then (after wiping the contents of the new card) copying all of this content to the new card.

I then installed the new map and updates using TomTom Home.

This sorted the problem for me!

So remember, (I'm sure this is probably obvious to most, but wasn't to me!) make sore you copy all the contents from the old SD card to the new one before installing the map!

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, on your model, all data must be on the sd card, system files and data. As you discovered. What size card did you buy, by the way?
