MAP UPDATES

Some months ago I purchased Tom Tom 5100 with lifetime World maps. Currently I have Europe, UK & Ireland map (it's all I need). I have version 9.7 but I see all al other world maps are 9.75.

This was my first ever sat nav and I have over the months been informed of, and downloaded, updates for community maps and speed cameras, but not maps. I only use myDrive Connect on an Apple Mac

Is my version 9.7 the latest version for Europe, UK & Ireland?

I seem to read on the questions help that I may have needed to get some sort activation code within 30 days of buying my device.

I have no recollection at the first time of downloading software of any activation codes and have always assumed that I would be automatically be informed of map updates for downloads in the same way as I have been for Community map updates and speed camera updates.

Sometimes I think life has been become too complicated. Can anyone advise this old, complete rookie if I have the latest update and as to what I should expect for map updates, or have I "missed the boat" by not getting some sort of activation code within 30 days of purchase.

The 975 map of Europe for your model is late and due to be released sometime in mid September. You don't need an activation code for new or additional maps but you do need to call support to add maps outside your geographical region.

You should also get yourself an 8 or 16 gb microsdhc card to handle future map expansion and additional maps.

So I'm good, puts my mind at rest.
Never say never, but can't see me venturing outside my geographical area. Unless I go visit the USA for one last time.
Didn't think I would need an expansion card, but good point re future map expansion. Will get an 8GB microsdhc card.
When I first got the GO 5100 and updated the software for some reason I lost the pre installed Europe,UK & Ireland map. I recall that I rang support and they told me how to download and install the map again.
As I say I was and am a complete sat nav rookie, but I seem to have world maps ready available now for installation into my device. My GO5100 does have free lifetime Map updates, so maybe support added them back in May, because I can see that the world maps listed to my device are the latest V9.75.
If all other world maps are V9.75 and have been updated to V9.75 since May 2016 then in my ignorance I must have had maps updated without realising!

There now is an update available for my EUROPE + UNITED KINGDOM + IRELAND BUILDINGS V9.7 at 6540MB, updating to V9.75 (5487MB); But it warns me that “ the latest FULL Europe map does not fit on your device any longer ” and it comes with the following important message

“In order to reflect the latest road changes maps are constantly growing in size. The latest full Europe map does not fit on your device any longer. Since very few of our customers drive through Russia, we've made it possible for you to update this map by agreeing to remove Russia from its coverage.

You can continue by clicking "Agree And Install". Alternatively, click "Cancel", go to the "My Maps" section, select your current Europe map, then select "Change Map Zone". Follow the steps and select "Europe without buildings" to install a map that includes Russia but does not display any 3D buildings in guidance view.

You can also always expand the memory of your device by adding a microSD card.”

I have read the important message several times and think that if I click “agree and install” I will get the updated V9.75 WITHOUT Russia.
I do have a nephew who works in Russia but have no intention of visiting him so it suit suits me to EXCLUDE Russia.
In the event I did not expanded my device with an 8GB microSD card, nor do I want to if it’s not absolutely necessary.

Maybe others are in my position and have successfully updated, so before I try the update and click “Agree and Install” I have two Questions:-

If I click “Agree and Install”

1. Am I right to believe that I will get the update without Russia?
2. Will I be able to do this without adding a microSD card?

I believe so but, with the low price of microsdhc cards these days, why not pop in a 16 gb card and not worry about future map expansion or, more importantly for your model, additional world maps you can get for free. Sandisk is a good choice.

Anyway, since you cross posted the same post in another thread, I'm going to close this one to avoid confusion.
