Lifetime Map Update Info

I bought a Tomtom XXL used from Craigslist.
It has the Lifetime Map Update Certificate and the owner registered it under his email address.
He did give me his email address and the passwod, and when I connected to the computer I logged in with his info and it takes updates just fine and everything is fine, but I just want to change it over to my own email address and a password of my own.
I believe that this certifacate is only for the original owner..
Is there a sneaky way to change the email address and password without losing the lifetime maps?

I think you will have to call CS at 866-486-6866 and have the account name changed to the email address you wish. I don't believe they would know you aren't the original owner.

Since you have the current e-mail address and password, just request that these be changed to a new address and password. I doubt that there will be any problem getting the change made. (Keep in mind that the people on this forum do not work for TomTom, so this is just a personal opinion.)
