TomTom Model(s)
GO720T
I spent nearly an hour yesterday on the phone to Tom Tom, updating my UK and ROI maps, something I haven't done since 2009. That's fine, I think, but the interface on my GO720 is now different and I have lost all my recent destinations. That, I suppose isn't a bad thing as it has done major decluttering. However, I cannot work out how to put in my Home, or 'fake' Home destination as that option is greyed out. Does anyone know how I can do this please.

Make sure you have a solid gps lock on the device. And is the country icon showing as UK in the address field?

If you copy the mapsettings.cfg from a backed up specific map folder to the new map folder on the device (probably UK_and_ROI), then information will return.

Oops, being female and not knowing a single thing about my Tom Tom, your reply has totally confused me. I have no idea where or how to copy folders. My Go hasn't got a memory card so don't know if this makes a difference. Any chance you could give me a step by step guide as to what to do? Or, would I be better off biting the bullet and buying a newer model?

When I installed the updated map it did a backup on my macbook pro but I have no idea how to access it.

That is good.
I am not familiar with Apple products but let's say you use Finder and, with USB connected and the device switched off, you see your GO 720T as a separate drive letter. Open that folder and look for the UK and ROI map.
Now, make a search with Finder for "mapsettings.cfg".
Once found, drag that onto your UK and ROI map.
Now start the device and see if your old favourites are back.

Thanks for your assistance. I tried to find the Tom Tom drive connected but switched off. It didn't show up in finder, but when I switched it on I was able to access the drive where I found the mapsettings.cfg file. It didn't unfortunately bring back all my destinations. I did manage to find a setting for altering my home destination so have done that and now, thankfully I have a home setting. Fingers crossed that all goes well now.

The idea was to replace the current mapsettings.cfg file with the one from your backup, made before updating to the new map.

My laptop didn't recognise the Tom Tom as a drive when the Tom Tom was switched off but connected through USB and the new map had already been installed. I now have my Home destination set up so hope all works OK when in the car.
