Hi Guys,

Im looking to create a system using my Start and a 2 way radio system.

What my intentions are to be able to have the TomTom send the current position of said vehicle (A Taxi in my fleet) via a radio system to the office in order to know where said taxi is.

Are there any files used on the Start to keep track of GPS positions at any given time?
If so, i can use that file to transmit the data to the office.

Or, is there a way i can get the pos using BT?

Any ideas at all?

Thanks Guys.

I don't know about the UK but I believe in North America real time position information is only available via subscription with specialist providers.

Thank You, Arno...

There must be a file that the TomTom uses to keep track of positions? In other words, The TomTom must write all the positions to some file in some way. WHat makes me think this is that when you are in a position that the TomTom struggles to find the sats, it gives you an option "Use Last Known Position". So, there must be a file that these positions are written to in order for the TomTom to retrieve that "Last Known Position.

If i can find out what file it is, i can then make a small computer to plug into the TomTom that reads that file and sends it to the radio for transmission to my taxi office.

Thank You :)

My first guesses were that it would be somewhere in a file such as MapSettings.cfg (in your map folder) or a triplog.dat file (in the statdata folder).

But I haven't been able to find any files with the location data in a sensible unencrypted form....

Here's what I did:

1. I took my TomTom out into the garden until it had a good satellite fix.
2. I then took it back inside and connected to the PC.
3. I then did a Windows search for all files on the device which had been modified with today's date.

4. I then attempted to open each of the resulting files in Notepad, and for any that could do so, I did a text search for "51.52" which is the first part of the Latitude coordinates for my house.

Afraid I couldn't find it at all.
You may have better luck if you can convert your relevant co-ords to HEX or something!

But if this is for a business use, have you considered the TomTom "Work" or "Webfleet" systems?
They involve specialised TomTom units and/or an-under dash black box, which transmits all that sort of location data back to base in real-time.

You can choose to install the TomTom LINK 300/510 into your vehicle or equip your vehicle with the PRO 9150

You can read about the systems here:
