GO6100
Hi guys, first time post so go easy on me...... I recently purchased a GO6100 to replace my aged 720 unit and was initially quite pleased with it but recently I've noticed it's sometimes becoming tricky to turn on.
If I turn off the ignition and it goes through it's 10 second ritual to sleep mode that all works fine but sometimes (not all the time as mostly it wakes right up) when I start the car again it will just sit there with a blank screen and also not respond to the switch on button either. If I wait and wait (I'm talking minutes here) eventually it may or may not turn itself back on.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I've been in the electronics industry for 30 yrs+ so I'm no dunce when it comes to operating stuff and possibly there is something wrong with what I'm doing but I'm not treating it any differently to my old 720 and that only refused to turn on when it had a flat battery.

Safe driving to you all.

If you turn the key to the accessory setting for a second or two and then turn the car on, does the device turn on?

Thanks for the reply. Most of the time it's OK and turns on, when it doesn't it'll just sit there blankly.... I can't work out what I might be doing differently between startups (if anything). It also happens if I place the unit on it's mount once the ignition is on, mostly starts up sometimes doesn't.

Regards.

I might be able to explain a failure of the auto-on, but if the button isn't working either, that's another story altogether.
Still in warranty?

It is curious, it always starts in the end, just may take a few minutes, possibly it's waiting for something or the software is hanging, what's the story with the auto on failures? Yes the warranty is good, it's only a few weeks old.

Regards.

Honestly, we've not heard of the symptom you report. Have never heard of a unit that fails both to respond to dock voltage AND the button. The button should never fail to provide a screen of SOME sort in more than a couple of seconds.

I gave it a factory reset yesterday, it's not done anything wrong today, hopefully that'll be the end of it.

Thank you for the replies.

Strange. Another one to add to our list of symptoms.

Well, please keep us updated on whether or not the problem returns or 'stays gone'.

Hi, unfortunately it did it again today. I can add that I actually drove off whilst waiting for it, and to my surprise it started giving directions, this obviously means it is on, just not switching on the screen (up until then I'd never moved whilst waiting and it had never spoken or made any noises.....). Does that sound familiar in any way to anybody?

Regards.

Not familiar, no, but it may be that the screen is running and that the backlight is failing to illuminate. Whichever - it's not a common fault, and isn't likely to correct itself.
Sorry, but I'd get that one back to the store for a replacement, pronto.
