How to write custom software for tomtom

Hello guys,

I am a software developer and I recently bought a tomtom device, I am a creative person so I would like to add some extra functionality to my tomtom device, could anyone please show me what IDE/tools and what language I need to to start writing applications? Also how I can parse the map files?

My initial project will be adding voices similar co-drivers in rally races, by reading the map and GPS co ordinates and give out "hard right" "easy left" voices.

TomTom used to provide a SDK to 3rd party developers but no longer. Perhaps someone with the knowledge yo seek will see your posts and be able to help.

opentom.org appears to be a good place to learn the technical aspects of Tomtom programming. I haven't attempted programming on a Tomtom, so I don't know how useful any of that info is.
